  • Primary drive chain length. HELP PLEASE!

I am quickly running out of time to leave Friday night for hunting. Ready to replace the primary chains (#40dr). Machine is an old (83? No data plates anywhere) 8 wheel With 17hp Kohler & double roller #50 (KB-IC?)
Parts book lists two different lengths on primary
    603-22 (46 pins including master)
603-24 (48 pins including master) with remark (RO) = replaces others?

I don't have the old ones out yet & even if they are 46 pins with master should they be replaced with 48 pins with master? Ids this an "improvement" to make on all of them at replacement?

Count what you have, there was probably 2 different geared jack shafts.
IE. amount of teeth, as an example some 50 jackshafts were 11 teeth and some 13 teeth thus changing the chain length.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Thanks Jim. They were 46 pins.
I had a popping like a Toth hanging up in a chain occassionaly on the right front somewhere that I couldn't track down. It would actually cause the power pack to rock. The primary chain on the right was over tight, the one on left loose. When I went to change them I found the power pach pinch bolt on the right bached out a couple turns while the one on the left was tight. Hopefully that was somehow causing the popping. Leave for noise hunting Friday!
