  • argos new aluminum axle shafts (really)

what do you guys think of the new 1.5 inch aluminum axle shafts new for 2016. also available bead lock wheels. aluminum axles really...... who is there engineer. there steel ones are weak and the new ones are 30% stronger according to odg. bead lock wheels great made some for my machine a few years back and love them. the new axles are a floating style with a steel splined hub.

At the Argo Expo they showed a new 1 3/8 axle made from forged steel that used a slightly larger diam. version of the newer HD. bearing. Some people referred to it as an inch and a half axle. The supplier had a seperat booth and showed a cutaway of the HD. bearing. The flange on the end of the axle was star shaped and not welded on but forged. If I remember correctly the spline may have been different? but that would require different sprockets so I may be wrong. I would strongly suspect that Argo is not offering aluminum axles.

There's nothing wrong with aluminum, there are grades of aluminum that have the same if not higher tensile strength of steel alloy.

When I was in the Army, there were many armored vehicles with aluminum wheels and final drives.

Thanks. and as I'm sure you know red-bird-dog, the new rims can be turned around or really just put onto the other side and the built in set back allows 18 inch tracks to be mounted without using spacers.

hi , read the discription of the new hdi not xti on the axles and it says aluminum. also talked to two argo reps to verify that they are aluminum . here is there description on it.

This HDI has the new for 2016 optional factory installed bead locking black aluminum rims and 30% stronger extreme duty aluminum axles compared to the standard Argo steel HD axles. This new option allows you to run as low as 1 psi air pressure offering excellent off-road comfort and easy track installation as the rims are off-set to allow the rim to be turned around and eliminates the need for wheel spacers when running 18" wide tracks. This upgrade can only be added on the assembly line and is not an option at the dealer level or in an aftermarket kit. This option is highly recommended for the serious hunter and commercial off-road customer. Please note not all of our in-stock inventory has this option, please reference the factory installed options on each model to see which axle/rim combination each unit has installed.

The axles are not aluminum. It is a mistake in the literature and the reps are just repeating what is in the literature. The bead lock rims are aluminum and the axles are most definitely steel.
