  • 1999 bigfoot starter problems

Okay my 1999 Bigfoot isn't starting I thought it was the battery so I bought a new battery in it does the same thing when I turn it on the blower motor comes on and it just makes a loud click under the hood but I won't turn over at all if I pull the rope it'll start right up but it won't turn over at all in the battery is fully charged anybody have any ideas

Sometimes simple is best and often overlooked, clean all the connections including the grounds and retry it. If that doesn't work and you have access to a pushbutton tester eliminate the key switch and test the solenoid.

If they both don't work ask again.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Like he said. Also check your ground. Wire. Could be frayed and broken

Take a jumper cable from the positive terminal to the big starter wire. If it starts then it's between those 2 points. Starter solenoid? If nothing then put a ground from the starter body to the neg terminal

I'll take a look tomorrow. I already cleaned all the wires going to the battery. What's that group of square things on the positive terminsl? Thanks guys.

another thing I was thinking about is that when I put my charger on it and hit 50 amp boost it still fails to turn over.

I bought this thing a week ago tomorrow and this is the final issue im working on. ive replaced a chain tensioner, greased up the axles, removed the big tires and installed the small ones and 13" tracks, and a new battery. once I get this starter issue nailed ill be ready to hit the swamps.

one thing I cant get out of my head is when I picked it up when put on the starter boost it did turn over.

Take 2 jumper cables right to the starter. If no spin it's the starter.

Had same issue on my response. I took a jumper wire and jumpered around the start solenoid touching one end of the wire where the battery goes into the solenoid and the other on the termenal of the solenoid going to the starter. It kicked over so I knew it was bad went to local auto parts store and got a new one.

The key switch can get rusty inside and when activated it could send power and then the rust could break contact, I would test the solenoid with a starter button. Another try may be to hold the key and see if it comes in delayed, if so the starter may be weak which is not uncommon ( it is probably 16 years old).
All the other tests above will probably tell you where to look, a solenoid is cheap.

So I made a jumper wire to touch touch the 2 contacts of the solenoid together and it turns over great. I turned the key on and it started right uolp.

Does this mean the solenoid is bad?

                    Thanks again

If it was me I would replace the solenoid. Like all ready said I think it cost me about 15 dollars pretty cheap fix for reliability.

Got it. Bad connection on wire from solenoid to starter. Got it on the trailer and our 5 year old and I are headed out on maiden voyage

                        Thanks guys
