  • OutBoard Gas/Electric mounting question

Have a 07' Argo Frontier 6x6 , wondering if any here has any experience with running a trolling motor or a small gas engine from the factory side mounted outboard mount ,is it ok ,.... good ....., bad?...

If bad what would be a fix .. center mount with no off-set ?

Also what shaft length long or short ?

    Thanks All

Well I have run a 36" 30lbs thrust minn kota and looking for a 45 to 55. It does move my bigfoot but about half of what the tires do per the GPS. I want a larger trolling motor to try with the Adair tracks which give me about 1/2 mph per the GPS. My mount is just left of center on the back of the argo so it doesn't obstruct exit / entry but as close to center as possilbe. The only thing I notice with having it mounted off set from center is the overall balance floating but that is an issue anytime in the water. If I buy a larger trolling motor I think I would get the 42" shaft in the 45- 50 lb range. Deeper would keep it further out of the turbulent water from the spinning tracks. I will say this though the trolling motor does give better steering capability and quiet approach for fishing obviously.

Thank You Trevorakm1 that's is what I wanted to know ,, I also have a 30lb thrust trolling motor but have yet to get it in the water for any real use other than the farm pond/ puddle out back ... hoping to up grade a few things next year , and want full water operation for the local river and lake so looking to get a 4-6hp outboard at this point and was wondering about the offset motor mount and if it is an issue .

Hey BW3 I have a video of me testing the outboard in the river up in Maine on the property during the fall. The river is high and running faster than during the summer even though it doesn't look like it. Send me an email at trevorakm@verizon.net and I'll send it to you. I'm not computer savey so posting on this site I find difficult. I was talking to a friend at work who said he would let me borrow his 55lb thrust trolling motor but I won't be back up in Maine riding till probably next summer.

I have an 8x frontier, I made my own mount and it is double sided. I have a 4hp Yamaha 4stroke on one side and a 55 ft lb minn kota on the other when I am fishing. Both work well, the 4hp is almost TOO fast. I spend a LOT of my time at half throttle or less.. I can make way up river with no problems. The trolling motor only really gets used when I am fishing just due to battery capacity but it does a great job. I dont find that the offset of either one really bothers me. My mount slips into the factory receiver hitch.

I have a lot of fun with a 1976 6hp 2 stroke on my Argo Bigfoot 03. Had to make new mount because of the short shaft. Mark VI may have pic on our Lake ride. I'll try post some pic soon.
