  • 1994 Conquest problem

    Hi everyone;
    First time poster here.
    I have had an ARgo conquest since new in 1994 and lately I have had a problem with the throttle sticking open. It requires a blip to return it to idle and can be a bit dangerous. The dealer claims that there is a retrofit kit out for the carb linkage but it is expensive. Anyone else have the problem and most importantly a cure!

    i had the same problem when i bought mine and it was the throtle cable assembly off the engine, binding . i simply just pushed the housing downward and checked the throttle at wide open and released so it would snap back to idle position, (had to tweek it a few times to get it just right) have a buddy or wife in my case to help you out, also doesnt hurt to get some oil in the cable

      I just bought a '97 conquest that also stuck WOT. The return spring attach point at the carb end of the throttle cable has been modified so I wonder if this is the kit the dealer is telling you about.

      I found my problem to be that everything needed some cleaning and lube. I cleaned every moving part at the throttle with carb cleaner until I was sure there was no grit and then lubed it with the Dupont Teflon Lube (I use this stuff on nearly everything!), then I lubed the cable with silicone version (to help against freezing a cable.), and then I found the real problem by disassembling the twist throttle - cleaning - and lubing that with graphite.

      Since you've had your machine since new and this just started happening I would do the clean/lube thing and replace the return spring and see if that fixes it.

      [EDIT] Hey, I just noticed that this looks like a Dupont commercial. I am not a representative of Dupont, just a really happy customer.
