  • Argo chains stretched

I have all the chains of my Argo and it is double 50 all around and last season had some vibrations when turning right? My chains right up in the front are good but on the left it is loose. Replace chains or just clean them up and use them again? How do I tighten the chains in the front? Thanks

You have three options for the front chains: 1) replace them as a set. 2) Make a tensioner. 3) Purchase a tensioner (Snapidle type).

I really like the Snapidle type of floating tensioner and I think its the best option for you.

Loose chains will cause the problems you indicate and when turning will give sluggish performance. The front chains on most Argos have no factory adjuster because they are so short. The option is like I said above. I prefer to have adjustment built in and use the adjustment to increase chain life. Your other chains have adjusters, and as long as they are operational you can clean and lube them and reuse. Sometimes the chain adjusters will get debris in their workings and you will have to grab them and give them a pull or push to reset the mechanism. Hope this helps.

I put the first rear chain on the Argo yesterday left side to be exact. The chain on top was Touching the frame? Stretched I guess? And also I couldn't figure out how to put those hair pins or clips on over he end plate? Any easy way I do this?

The attached video is from Rockdoctor. Its pretty straight forward, although I always think a third hand would help.

I measured the 4 rear chains and each chain is just over 5 feet ( 5 ft mark is half way on the last link) and one chain is 5 feet exactly. I tried all these chains are touching the frame when I put them on. Can I take a link out or ?

Worn chains need to be replaced because they will cause damage to the sprockets. You will same time/money in the long run not taking shortcuts.

Remember when replacing worn chains to count the links and replace with the same number.. A stretched chain will be longer than a new one with the same number of links, but if you only measure you could be making them longer than original..

I always take "one link" as the side plate.. I note the inside piece and allow for it at the ends..

I was talking to a seller on eBay and he said he can get me a deal of 2 10 ft boxes of 50-2 chain for 120 dollars
