Yes, I agree with ARGO JIM,the 23 hp briggs seems to get hot, along with all the other air cooled units, air just can't displace heat like a liquid cooled unit can.I'm starting to believe that there are limitations with the 23hp air cooled briggs,in an 8x8 frontier, with a set of heavy tracks, that should be considered.
When we run down in texas on a hot day, lots of hoods come off on the air cooled units, it's the only way they will run good. There is a non issue with the liquid cooled units,or the admiral tranny, however, and we never have to worry about it.
The hood on an argo is molded in the same sheet as the top, floor pans, and firewall,it's just not a matter of changing the mold for the hood alone.ODG has come a long, long way, even in the last 10 years, and it just doesn't make sense to live in the past, and complain about what was, look at what IS....and if you just can't live with a solid hood, get out your checkbook and solve the problem.

Here is just a quick and partial view of the air handling changes of the Tecumseh machines, other models have similar slight changes perhaps not noticeable. Look closely at all the bodies and hoods.
75 introduction style Tec. of Wild Bills

        Cleverknivkname's early model example

        Chambersranch's mid years model

Steveregs late model last series example of 1988, always liked this style though never seen one in person.

Also not that the steering and gas tank fill changed from left to right.

Another great shot from Lawdude showing differences.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
        Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

A very common site in the 80's when these machines were regularly used.

We mostly cured Gil's with a school bus style fan mounted in the engine compartment evacuating the hot air, with 3 to 5 people and the steel Igloo in the back the machine and driver were generally loaded pretty good. His '78 laid out 7 Enduro trails averaging 3-4 hours median time.
