My transmission in my 2000 bigfoot was leaking gear oil very badly. I pulled the transmission and pulled the cover. The cover only has one cap. The hole for the shift assembly only has a retaining clip. This is one place a could see gear oil leaking out. When pulling the cover, the bearing stayed on the shift assembly shaft. The service manual says this bearing needs to be pressed into the case but the existing bearing slides in easily without a press which seams to explain why it leaked from there. Is the existing bearing just worn - i.e would a replacement bearing be slightly larger and require a press? Is there no other oil seal besides the bearing itself? Should there be a cap for the hole? Pictures in service manual show caps in both holes.
