What is the purpose of thrust bolts in the end of the axles? I don't have any in mine

These are not thrust bolts, they are there to help keep the axle from walking out. Also used for self location of the axles to keep them in line.
Older machines like yours used locking collars on inner and outer bearings, if locked properly and should they not fail the axle should not move. Since you've just done yours, use a tape measure and see if they are all the same distance from the outer body measuring from next to the flange to the hub.sigpic

If you are googling - look for thrust washer. The purpose of the bolt is to fix the thrust washer.
But to further your quest along: What do you imagine it should do?
I don't know anything about the design of the axle system in your machine. In mine the thrust washers are not optional.
