  • Jingle Jangle

Out deep in the back forty loaded down across two back lakes and Jingle Jangle noise starts under the hood and comes and goes HMMM strange sound like something in the clutch system coming unglued, shut it down opened access panels took a look grabbed this and that and gave things a shake and a tug nothing seemed out of place.Took some time to get to the bottom of it but baffles inside the muffler had busted loose.Didnt have enough tools with me to remove it in the bush so back to camp we went pulled the muffler off and turned it side to side and all kinds of metal began to fall out of the engine side pipes Yikes if that had of got drawn in ,the cylinder heads would have not survived it,cut the damn thing open and gutted it welded it back up and reinstalled it and ordered a new one, cant risk sparks and its a bit loud,so if you hear a jingle inspect your muffler before possible engine damage.NCT

Yikes! I assume you had suitable ear protection for the pups! They shouldn't be subjected to such awful noise. Send them down here and I'll ride them in a good ol' Max 4, they'll probably throw rocks at you guys when they return!

Yes NCT. A guy near here had his machine tip to one side when one front wheel broke through the ice. The angle of the muffler dumped small little beads of steel into the cylinders and destroyed his motor. Maybe our older machines should have the muffler removed and shaken?

Not sure it bothered the Pup,s much they seem able to tune out pretty much all background noise such as NO/DOWN/COME they have the ability to shut off their ears LOL.NCT

Umm its a pain to get at and you need a extra set of exhaust gskt,s handy but considering the consequences something to check and keep a ear out for I was sure nervous on the trip back that it might suck in a piece. You can mess up a number of things on these machines and still get yourself home but take out a motor and it becomes painfully clear how long a hike you got in front of you,so yes if you spend a great deal of time back in the boons its one more variable you can check off the list to assure you make it back.

Must be a breed specific thing. Mine do the same thing.

My brand new 2016 750hdi has a rattle, or 'jingle', coming from the exhaust. I just took it as a heat shield rattle, but now you have me wondering if I need to have it inspected. The good thing about a warranty is I don't have to remove/cut open/weld/etc...! I just make a call, they pick it up and repair it, and bring it back to me. Thanks for the heads up as this may be a somewhat common problem Argo needs to investigate. Hopefully they are reading these posts and pick up on it.

              Thanks,

You might want to do a little troubleshooting first before just a call to the dealer.. It will help you get familiar with your new machine...

I did a little more investigating and it turns out my 'rattle' is coming from the two springs on the exhaust pipe vibrating against the pipe. A couple wraps of heat wrap strategically placed around the exhaust took care of it. But good catch!! Others should indeed check it out if they have similar noise.
