  • 1991 Argo Magnum 8x8 front axle spacing question

I just purchased the Argo and was wondering why the front axles are shorter in the front than the 3 rear axles.

Wow what's up there? Does it have wheel spacers on it??

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

I took a picture of the rear axle and no spacers seen. The model # ends in LA. Could this be a long axle option?

Those axles are not Argo axles, they are way to long.especially with bearing extensions you should only see a few inches of axle and more axle without the bearing extensions. But from the pick the rear ones are out away from the tub too much and the front ones seem to be in the right spot just diff axles?
I also own a magnum and mine is not like this

It's the same length. The side you are describing opposite of the gas filler cap walks in about an inch. But can be put back flush when jacked up and hit with a deadblow hammer. I have never seen that before.

Looks like the LA is a long axle option, had no idea it existed and preceded by another model.
It appears to be a 91. You would have to get axle info from Argo or the dealer who sold it.
Are the 3 long axles splined or double keyed? I cant get it blown up clearly.

Replacing the bearings on the walking axle should fix that, it also looks like there are 2 different style bearings in the machine already.

His frame is like a conquest frame in the rear and also has bearing extensions? I'm confused with this Argo.
But yes those axles are definitely longer than normal.take a pic on the longer axles close up to see if they are keyed or spline!

Thanks so much for your help. The axles are splined. I wonder what advantage having a long axle option would give you? wider tracks with front wheel spacers? If I changed the six axles to standard length is there a newer style axle and bearing combo to go with? Again thanks for everyone's input.
