        Ok, so I figured out what was wrong.

        It was the shifter linkage, it was not fully shifting into reverse gear, which caused the transmission to slip when under load.

        I extended the link so that it goes fully into gear, and it works without any issues.

        Very happy, easy fix, should have checked that first.
