whats wrong with the starter ? when you hit the key does it make noise but not turn the engine over? b&s starters use a plastic drive gear witch can strip or break (especialy if you turn the key to start with the engine running) it is replaceable sepperate and is mutch cheeper than a whole starter and most small engine shops will have it!!!
they dont call me mad because im angry!!!!! im just a little crazy thats all!!!!
Hey Fella's, i just bought a 95-96 Response 18hp B&S and the guy i got it from took out the engine/tranny, now i am wanting to put it all back in, first-the starter is nothing but the rotor part, no housing at all so i'm going to replace the whole thing,BUT i noticed a few small holes above the starter like something should be there, does anyone know what should be there? 2nd-i do not have any mount bolts with it so i need to know do all 3 mounts have single long bolts that go right through one side to the other or?? 3rd-is there anywhere i can get a wiring diagram for the machine? Sorry for bein a pain in the ass its just that my a$# of Argo dealerships dont want to help me cause there is nothing in it for them
Thanks guys

Hi eightwheeler, welcome to this site... I think i could help you... the thing missing over your starter is the voltage regulator if i m right... I got a 1985 Vanguard and i put a 18hp B&S. I got problem with my voltage regulator so i know now were he his now!!!! For your electric diagram, i got a response shop manual on my computer. Depending on your serial number he could be good for you ( the shop manual i got stard at the serial number 25274 and further) For the rest it could be a good idéa to put your hand on a good shop manual for your Argo, it will get very handy for trouble shooting and for part searching. Maybe someone can help you find one here. Here the guys are really nice and dedicated to help people who love this hobby. Hope it could have help a little.. Keep up posted with your machine condition and put some pictures when you have some...
Ok, i found the voltage regulator and put it on and started up the engine, it runs very well, so now i have the brakes to work out, does anyone have an up close pic of the brake assembly(master cylinders mainly) on their mid-late 90's Argo, the only thing on the transmission is the levers and little parking brake levers, i need to assemble the brakes again so i can get the engine/tranmission assembly back in
