i have a leak in my argo.its not the drain plugs but water was coming in through a hole where i forgot to put the bolt in that holds the skid plate on but im thinking its not just that hole. will those skid plate bolts leak if you didnt put any silicone on them say? whats a good way to test or check where the leak is by doing it in the shop?please help

also i used smaller diameter bolts as well so it was a loose fit unlike the bigger diameter stock bolts used to mount the skid plate

you could try putting water inside and see where it leaks from

Hey Doc,That's fine but if your neighbor stops by and sees you filling your waders with water he's probably going to tell the story to a lot of people.

i would like to put enough water so it covers most of the frame. will any water get into the engine or tranny or damage anything? also where are some places an argo could most likly leak.it has a skid plate as well

Fill it up to the top of the frame rails, the most likely place it will leak is going to be your axle bearings/flanges.

Does pumping grease in some the grease niples help seal against water around the axle seal. I never greased anything yet and noticed a few small leaks around the axle seal.

Definitely grease it and check again.

Yes! Grease everything frequently, if you don't hate your grease gun your not using it enough lol

so its proven the seals need grease to help seal the axle?

Bearings, even triple sealed, will allow some water through, if too much grease has been pumped in and the seal is broken, more water will flow through. Having grease (marine grade) helps stop the water from flowing through as fast, and helps keep the bearings from prematurely wearing due to water and dirt sitting in it

I'd also pay close attention around your skid plate since you replaced the bolts with smaller diameter ones and didn't use any sealant. Silicone can really be your friend here. I use liberal amounts when putting on / taking off my entry step. (Can't use the step with the tracks on.) If your testing if your tub is waterproof by filling it with water it is possible you are getting weeping leaks between the tub and the skid plate and they may not be easily identifiable. Just do enough tests before venturing too far from the coastline.

all the skidplate bolts held except two since they were loose. i tighned it and put silicone in them
