  • Argo Vanguard repairs.

Hey guys, long time member, new poster. Have an older Argo Vanguard that I'm in the process of repairing. When I bought it a couple years ago it was supposed to need a carb cleaning and a couple tires. We'll like alot of guys on here after getting it home I discovered it needed more, alot more, so I pushed under the shed and left it for another time. We'll that time is here now and I've been slowly working on it, got the motor pulled and it's not good for much but scrap and linkage donation to the used 18 vanguard I drove to New Orleans today to pickup. Spent a couple hours today cleaning out the stuff from under the floor boards so I can get a good look at the chains and tensioners. Chains have a good bit of slack and a couple springs missing off of the tensioners so that'll have to be found and purchased. The bottom sheet metal has rust at all the welds and if I ever take it down that far it'll be cut and replaced. For right now I'm just trying to get it in the water so I can see if I keep it or my older Argo with the 17hp Kohler twin. Just wanted to into duce myself to yall.

make sure drain plugs are in for starters. if it was left out a while the seals probably need replacing and some gaskets maybe... good luck and send up up some pictures of your ride

If you have the engine and trans out, with plugs in, you could drag it down to a water hole and watch exactly where the water comes from or simply fill it at home and see where the water goes.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
      Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Anyone know off hand what size this double roller chain is on a vanguard? Looks like 50 to me buy I want to check before I order. Also how much chain would it take to redo all the drive chains?

It is 50-2 chain for sure, I'm not sure about the length but I think that info is in the FAQ section.

I rebuild an 93 vanguard a coupe of years ago. I used double 50 for the axle chains and 40 for the idler.

You should be able to order that through your local Argo dealer. I ordered one for my Avenger a few years ago and I don't remember it being expensive.

I don't really have a local argo dealer, the closest one is about a two hour drive for me so I am stuck trying to source bearings and such closer to me. Plus I do like to keep my money as local to me as possible, as a small bussiness owner I try to keep my money in my town. But if I need to I don't mind shoping around the net for it.
