  • Trans clicking

    Hey guys,

My trans on my old Argo started making a clicking sound. I took the belt off so I could turn it by hand and about every couple of revolutions, I hear a click. Any ideas. Also I'm leaking trans fluid. Sounds like I need to tear into it. How hard is this and does anyone have a parts diagram that I can look at to know what I might need to order? Thanks.

A "clicking" Trans is a new one on me. I would say that if you are going in, you might as well replace ALL bearings and seals. Take a good look at your shafts, while you are in there, you might want to replace any that are showing signs of wear at the seal seats.

I don't have a parts list, but Cory Alaska just gave his an OH, might be worth your time to fire a PM off to him.

    Good Luck

Did you get this argo recently? Did you venture some extra tough useage recently? Worse case cinerio, you could have a chipped gear tooth. You say you may have to tear it down. You'll see it right away. Hope I'm wrong.
It's all just nuts and bolts.

Don't know about the old mechanical brake calipers, but the modern ones have holes in the rotors for caliper bolt access. When the hole turns past the brake pads, it either catches or releases the pads and they move in the caliper and make a clicking sound.

Any luck with your tranny? I am not sure what a clicking noise would be caused by. I just rebuilt mine and there wasnt anything internally that should have been the root for something like that unless there is a shim missing or something and a gear is popping past a tooth or you have a broken tooth. Let me know if you have any questions.

            Clicking Trans

I've had it for a while and it has a new vangaurd in it. Not long after I got it, it started starving for fuel. I thought maybe it was getting too hot a vaporizing the fuel in the bowl. Now I know for sure that the vacuum fuel pump isn't pumping so I'll get another of those. It started clicking and I got frustrated with it and parked it. Now I'm itching to get out there and get it running again. It's one of the early models and I didn't have but two or three hours on it before things started konking out on me. I think I got suckered when I bought it.
