  • magnum wont start

had the kohler magnum running yesterday but never went for a ride, idled fine and ran smooth and went to go for a ride today started first turn of the key with chock wide open and 15 seconds later stalled..... tried and tried but no luck. gave it a few mins started and died again regardless of what i done with choke and throttle. has new fuel pump also. what could be the problem. checked fuel lines and fuel is going through them but i had it going yesterday so i wouldn't be able to tell if she was pumping or not.

Start with the basics. Are you certain you're getting fuel through the fuel lines all the way to the carb? If yes, then....

Run a little test to see if fuel is getting through the carb. Remove your air cleaner so you can spray or pour a small amount of fuel (half an ounce or so) in the carb (air intake) and then whirl the engine over. You can use starting fluid instead of gas if you want. If it hits or runs for just a second or two, there's a problem with the carb delivering fuel. Possible problems are trash in the carb, shutoff solenoid if you have one. If it does not hit or crank, then......

Check to make sure you're getting a good spark. Pull each spark plug, reattach the wire, hold the plug against the engine so it will ground, and whirl the engine over and see that its firing. Check both plugs. If its firing, and it it has fuel, its supposed to run. If its not firing, then......

Make sure there's not a problem in your wiring. I"m assuming your engine relies on a ground wire to kill the spark when you shut the key off. If so, you need to make sure this wire hasn't rubbed against something and grounded out. You can test it if you find the wire at the engine and unplug it. If it cranks with the wire unplugged, you will have to plug it back up to kill the engine, or pull the spark plug wires (watch out for a jolt).

Run these tests and let us know what happens.

will take off fuel line, i remember seeing something in the tank before and never bothered to remove it, maybe its starving the carb.

now add an inline fuel filter so it doesn't happen again lol. Get a clear filter so you can keep on eye on what it's catching.
