  • Anyone do an engine swap on a Avenger yet

We have a 05 unit that is not sounding so hot, it could just be a colapst lifter or maybe some other bigger problem its more of a loud knocking noise not a light tapping.

Either way I dont feel like rebuilding the stock wimpy liquid cooled kohler unit. So its either swap a new Kohler in or do something different and hopefully with more power.

I was thinking along the lines of a modern 2 stroke snowmobile engine like a Arctic cat with fuel or just oil injection

Has anyone done something like this on a avenger, I'm gessing the tuff part would be fitting the pipes, what other parts would I need the base plate, and ignition...

    Thanks

for one kohlers are not wimpy. if you want you can upgrade to the 30 hp kohler aegis 750cc engine. new Argos come stock with that and they are more than powerful enough. how many hours is on the engine. you should really figure out the problem to figure out if it is something small or big. dont go buying new engines unless you know the problem because it may be fixable and not expensive as it may seem.

I just did the EFI31 in a 2005, I used all factory parts though I'd imagine you could get away cheaper adapting some of what you have. Direct bolt in.

Cooling in a 2stroke will most likely be a problem along with clutching/speed/low speed torque issues.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
      Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

        Hello Snow Mogg,

Just a tip as we have seen older avenger Kohler engines start to gum up the valves and cause the push rods to bend and drop out of the rocker arms. If power is down, check this first and run a good fuel cleaner through the system like SeaFoam.

I did take the valve covers off after feeling power loss a while back as I did drop a push rod in the past on another argo engine. Under the cover all seemed ok, was kinda surprized and dissapointed to see non adjustable rockers, So hyduralic lifters are OEM hmm

Did one more oil change, as well as plugs, filter, cable linkage adjustmet... I think its mostly clapped out, it smokes crazy clacks more everytime we fire it up.

Already made a deal for a 1000cc FI rotax just need some pictures of the chassi engine mounts for refrence, If anyone has any Thanks!
