Rear Winch Receiver

I'm going to install a rear winch receiver kit on my argo Avenger and was wondering if any of you guys have installed one. I'm not sure how to route the wires to the back of the machine, so any info or pictures of your installation would be appreciated.

What year is your machine? I have one on my Avenger. I will take some pics and send them tomorrow. Just got back from a ride.

If you want the winch to be able to be easily disconnected (ie. a receiver type setup) then I would use a good sized quick connect.

This one is a little big, but you get the point:

I have a 2007 Avenger, I have the complete kit, but it don't say how to route the wires to the back. Did you have to drill any holes in the body to get the wires to the back of the machine?

Yes, but just where the connector is mounted. I will take a picture and some measurements. My machine is a 2006 Avenger.

Rear Winch Receiver

Hi Lewis;

I mounted my winch to the bracket , slid it into the receiver & pushed the pin through to hold it in place. I noticed that when I lifted the winch it would rub against the outboard motor bracket.
Have you noticed this with your setup? I wanted to lift quarters of moose out of the argo, but I am afraid of damaging the winch, with this setup.
I am considering welding about an inch to the end of the winch bracket , so there will be more channel beyond the hitch pin, hoping this will give me less lift. Maybe this will keep the winch away from the outboard motor bracket.
Do you have any suggestions?

The winch should always pull away from the Boat motor mount. Haven't used mine much but have not had any problems when i have used it. Moose are kinda slim around here.

I'm having a welder make me an attachment like that for my Frontier.

Argo did half the work by making the front winch on the Frontier removable but they did not offer a rear attachment option. I'll just need to add an extention to get power to the rear.

Thanks for the pics. I also have about an 1/2 inch clearance between the outboard motor bracket and the winch,but when I lift up on the winch it touches the motor bracket. I don't know how much pressure I would be putting on the winch by lifting 100-150 lbs. I'm going to weld about 1 1/2 inches to the winch bracket channel to see if I can get some clearance when I lift something out of the argo. I'll let you know the results.

Let us know how that works, a rework of the factory fab may be in order. By the way i leave this winch receiver in about all the time it makes for a handy step-up into the Argo.

Rear Winch Receiver

Hi Lewis;

I got the mods done on my rear winch receiver. I had 1-3/8 inches welded to the tail piece of the winch bracket. That gave me more clearance, but I took it back to the shop and had beads of welding put on the four sides at the tip of the tailpiece and on the four sides just inside the hitch receiver . With a little grinding I now have a snug fit, no up or down or sideways movement at all. I now have about 1/2 in clearance between the winch body and the outboard motor bracket when I pull up on the winch.
I also modified the flat piece where the winch pins on. I can now slide the pins in easily without any lifting of the winch to align the holes. If you want I can send a picture of the changes that I made?

Great: I'm always looking for improvements. If you have pictures please post them.

Have you used it yet and were the improvements effective?

I have used mine very little and it was in a straight type pull which would keep the winch away from Boat Motor Mount. It is a very handy item to have.

Wire and plug location how did that come out for you?

The mods turned out to be very effective, I'm pleased. The wiring and connector also went well. I tried to post pictures of the mods but couldn't post them, must have done something wrong.
