    my dash shows 12.5 and right up to 16V opened up. put a meter on the battery and it only goes up to 14. something. is this a common problem ?

    As msafi65 wrote, the gauges can be off in calibration. If your meter reads (13.5)14(14.5) at full throttle you are good.

      mine reads 16 and goes up down as the throttle is increased/decreased

        Voltage is supposed to change with engine speed on these type charging systems.

            As msafi65 wrote, the gauges can be off in calibration. If your meter reads (13.5)14(14.5) at full throttle you are good.
            Unless you are having an electrical problem other than the gauge reading, run it. 14 volts at the battery at high RPM is no problem.
