  • Avenger Chain noise on deceleration

I found a few minor things I had to get fixed on the avenger before my big moose hunting trip next week. Got them all done but one thing I noticed is what sounds like chain rubbing noise when decelerate from high speed. It is almost like the chains slack up and sag enough to rub somewhere.

I orginally thought it was from the main drive chain from the transmission/brake area, as it was loose. I tightened that up but it is still there.

Again, there is no noise when driving, only when I let the gas off and start to decelerate. Then I get what appears to be a rubbing sound.

I have new chain adjusters all around (the new style). The chains all appear fairly tight.

IS this normal and if not, any ideas where I can look first?

    Derek

PS. I "think" they are rubbing on the cross brace that has the black plastic sleeve piece that sits on top if it. (right below where your feet would normally be). The chains may be slacking just enough that they are rubbing when they go over that black plastic.

Here is a schematic of the part I think my chains seem to be rubbing on too much. It is part # 56. Obviously, this is a slider part that is designed to have the chains run on, but my question is 'does anyone else have the situation where it is really noisey when you let off the gas?'

Probably I am being a bit too worried but where I am going hunting there aint no repair stations.............

        Hi D

While i was cleaning my Avenger up i had the bottom pans out and took her for a run. No noise other than noise that chains make as they travel. Went from full throttle to 0. Still just chain noise. Checked on the part #56 mine does not hit.
There is no markings of it dragging, how loose are your chains?
My Avenger is a 2006. Can you take a picture of this area and i will compare it to my machine.

        Let me know.

          thanks for the info,

I think it actuially hitting on the bottom of the cross brace. i think the is that when they put the new chain tensioners on, the chains seem to sit a bit higher on the bottom part of the chain cycle, which just makes the chains slightly rub the metal when not under torque. It seems odd that my new chain tensioners are at full tight setting. Something must not be right as I only have 200 hours on the chains and they shouldn't be stratched that much.

I am going to check it today with the tires off and I will post what I find.

          derek

            FYI,

Problem solved. THe new style chain tensioners, when set to the tightest setting, actually can cause the chain to rub on the frame, just under part #56. I let the tensioner off one setting and the problem is solved.

            Now I am going hunting!!!!!!
