Deciding between the Frontier and the Frontier S 6x6.
I'm planning on my 8x8 with a new Frontier 6x6. I am hoping someone can give me some additional insight to help me with deciding between the Base version and the S version.
In comparing the base model to the S model, the key distinctions that seem to matter most are (obviously) the Engine and Transmission. The S version upgrades from the 19hp kohler to the 23hp kohler, and offers the choice of a 2.6 or a 3.3 gear ratio. The S also has the bearing extensions standard. The skid plate can be added to the base model, and the bilge and step aren't necessary options for me.
Questions:
1) How is the performance and durability of the 19hp engine. I think this size will do fine for me, considering most of the machines we use on our property are running with similar engines.
2) Any feedback on these 2 transmission choices?
3) what is the functionality of the bearing extensions and why are they needed?
Thanks.
