I have located what I believe to be a 70's era Argo Super Sport Six. It runs, but doesn't look too pretty as someone has tried to paint over the factory orange color with a green. It has what I think is either a CCW 400 or 440 twin cylinder 2 stroke. The guy that owns it has replaced the fuel pump, installed a new fuel cell, replaced all the tires and brakes. I am new to the 6x6 world and gained interest as I was looking for an ATV and a boat, so I thought I would kill 2 birds with one stone. My uncle used to race Terra Tigers back in the 70's and doesn't have much knowledge of Argos. The asking price is $1500 which seems a little high, but with all the new parts and what the guy has in it brings it in to perspective. The machine runs very well, but the throttle cable is broken at the handle bar so it is almost impossible to drive. What should I be concerned about when I go look at this unit again? Does Argo still sell parts for a machine of this vintage? I think it is a '74 model, but don't know where to look for the serial numbers let alone where to run the serial numbers to check the year. He is selling it because he has many other play toys and doesn't have time to mess with it anymore. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks ArgoGirb67. I took the leap and bought this unit. The CCW runs fantastic, however, after I got it back to the homestead, I found that I have to crank this thing to 2500rpm+ to get it to move. I opened the engine cover and watched the clutch and it doesn't appear to be closing all the way. Can the belt clutch be lubed to free them up? I have about 1/4" - 38" clearance between the belt and the pully at rest, is there any way I can adjust the drive pully to get it to engage the belt faster? Also found out the hard way that it doesn't float without the plugs in the body. Have any idea what size they might be? I've see other posts that say 5/8". And pardon my density, but I'm old school and don't know what all your acronyms mean in your previous post. Take it slow and easy with me, but I will catch on.

i was having the same issue with the clutches on my 80 something. i brake cleaned them out, and then lubed with silicone spray... they seem to be working ok.A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
