I already asked this question before but I want to get to e bottom of it his time. Never sold argo yet and just keeping it up for sale but will only sell if price is right so I'm not worried about it leaving any time soon. So my kohler magnum 18hp has 805 hrs right now and does not want to start some times. For example after a long ride when you go to start it just winds no matter what you do with choke and throttle, she starts half decent in cold but compared to my atv that starts right up having 1500 hrs on it the Argo starts terrible. I noticed the coil was split when I set the gap. It's not a fuel issue and it will idle all day when going. Maybe a magneto or stator problem but like I said she runs good when she is going so it can't be that?

Some things to check:
Possible Vapour Lock due to heat, or Fuel Tank vent may be plugged. When it wont start, pull a Plug, is it wet and smell like gas, or is it bone dry? Do you Choke it when hot starting it? If "yes", it could be flooding.
Coil and/or Plug Wire. Check your spark when the engine is hot.
Valve Lash could be off. Check/set your valves. Try doing a Comp Test Cold VS Hot.
Ethanol fuel is terrible, have you cleaned the Carb Jets?
Is the Choke "Sticky", possibly not opening/closing all the way?

We had a smaller Honda motor do the same thing it was 2 problems the 1st was the gas cap vapor lock, but the second was the crazy one. The oil sensing unit, when the motor was shut down and tried to start back up relatively soon it wouldn't start, unplugged the sensor and has worked ever since.
