  • swapping 16hp tec for 18hp briggs vanguard

    hi everybody

My name is Steve and I just recently bought a 1982 argo 6x6 with the 16hp tecumsa. I love the machine but the motor is getting a little tired and I'm kind of thinking about swapping it for a 18hp briggs and stratton. I'm just wondering if anyone on this site has made this conversion and if it will work without too many serious modifications. I would appreciate any advice i can get, Thanks Steve

    Hi Steve,

I swapped a JLO 400 2-stroke in my Attex for a 16 hp. Vanguard. I fabricated a plate that would allow my to continue using the original motor mount. After that, I had to do some light re-wiring and make provisions for the new exhaust. My experience was that it was not too big a deal.

      First DIBS!

If you want to get sell your old 16 hp then I'm interested as I am very happy with my 16 hp, but mine is OLD with many many hours and unknown history I'd rather rebuild one out of the machine ready to go when mine finally fails.
