how do you remover bearings with locking collars.i never worked on machines with them so im new to it.do you need to turn with a punch and hammer counter clockwise to get the bearing off?

It's eccentric, so by turning it, you are pinching the axle. It sits happy in the bearing, but the turned collar tries to force it up. By hitting it, you are taking this force to a greater degree and locking the axle where it is at. Set screw is there to keep the collar from twisting back the way it came. I still use set collars as an added security measure where possible thoughMeep Meep
