  • 8 to 6 wheeler?

would it be possible to cut an 8 wheeler down to a 6? hardest part i guess would be rejoining the tub?

Yes, it will be labor intensive but is doable. Look at member thebuggyman1's build thread for his Max II Bigfoot. He cut the tub and made it taller instead of shortening one but the plastic work is still the same. Also member hydromike made a Max IV into an 8 wheeler so be sure to check his build thread as well.

I have a question. Assuming it is possible, why would someone want to?
I know I am new to this, but from what I have seen, going from 6 to 8 wheels seems more desirable than going from 8 to 6. I am sure that a few months from now I will see things different, but now I'm a bit confused.

As Mike said, it's definitely possible. The orange Mudd-Ox 6x6 prototype was a standard 8x8 cut in the rear.

The newer Argo 6x6 uppers are actually 8x8 bodies cut down and seamed in the rear section. This is done by overlapping the bodies. Of course they have a true 6x6 lower mold. If you're thinking about cutting your new Argo project, the hardest part will be keeping water out of the lower. Not only do you have the bottom to seal - but the sides of the tub as well. You also have to chop the frame and mate it together as straight as possible, while also maintaining the wheelbase. One mistake could render the vehicle into a parts machine.

For safety concerns I would suggest against it. There's quite a few used Argo's on the market. You could sell (or even trade) for a 6x6. Each style has its pros and cons. It's fun to have one of each.
