Just bought a 1982 KB series Argo 8 wheeler with the all the wiring and key switch missing. It has a Kohler Series II 17hp engine which runs fine. Anyone out there have a wiring diagram or schematic? I have totally restored the machine with just the wiring left to do. Would like to get the project done to go moose hunting. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yes it has an ammeter guage and an hourmeter. There is also a seperate light switch. I found out from the serial number that the machine is not an 82 but actually a 1984.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially on the charging portion of the wiring. Thanks in advance!

i don't have a wiring diagram, but i have a running version of what i think to be the same machine by your descreption. i need to fix some of the p.o.'s hack wiring. if you need, i could trace wires and tell you what hooks to what. post some pics of your machine so i can tell if it's the same.A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

That would be great if you could! I'll take some pics of the machine and post them for you to look at.
I think that I'm OK with the basic stuff like solinoid wiring, but need to understand the key switch wiring and charging circuit.
Does the user manual that came with the machine (I don't have one) say anything about the wiring?
Thanks!!!!

Any chance that I could get a scan or photocopy of the manual from you. The manuals are not available anymore from argo. I'd be willing to pay for copying costs.
I'll take another stab at the wiring this weekend, but without the key switch it might be rather difficult. I'll post some pics on Monday.
Thanks very much!!

here is what i have so far
i got a new key switch from autozone for under 10 bucks, same as the original argo switch. it has 4 poles. battery +, ignition, start and acc.
you'll need a wire from the battery (or battery side of the solenoid) to the batt+ on the switch.
a wire from the start position on the switch to the small terminal on the solenoid.
the acc position has 1 wire to the light switch, and one to the brake fan switch... also run bilge pump and other accessories from this position.
the ignition position on the switch has 1 wire to the coil + terminal, and 1 wire to the hour meter (so it only runs with the ignition on).
i haven't managed to trace the charging system yet, but i believe it just hooks to the battery(+ wire should have a diode to keep it from putting 12v back to the charging system when the engine isn't running) as i said, i haven't traced that yet so check for that diode before hooking up.
hope that gets you up and runningA well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

mine doesn't need the ground, it's an old points engine, so you just shut off the 12v to the coil to shut the engine off. i'm used to working on briggs where you need to ground the magneto to kill it, so the lack of a ground at the switch threw me at first.A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

your pics didn't show up. what i described above should get it running... just not charging. i'll try to trace the charge circuit tonight. if you need, i can probably draw you the diagram... i don't have a scanner so i'll have to try to take a picture of the drawing.
good luckA well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
