  • Transmission Lube

Ok, I'm embarrassed about this one but I can't find the transmission drain plug on my 70's model Argo. The oil in mine is looking kind of milky and I would like to change it but I can't find the plug. Anyone know where it is on this tranny? Also, should I just put 90wt gear lube in it?

my 80 something argo, the plug is on the front of the trany, bottom right. i couldn't find mine either, but located it once i had to pull the trany out. recomended fluid 75/90 gear oil (per argo) might be different in different climates... i'd check with a dealer in your area

I have a 72 -74 model argo. And I never found the drain plug. So I sucked it out the dipstick hole. My transmission wines a little,so I put staight Lucas gear box lube in it. Its alot quieter now!

Wow! No drain plug. I can't believe that could have been overlooked in the design process. How did you suck it out. I don't think a Slurpee straw would be long enough.

OK. I completely dismantled my Argo just to get you this pic
I didn't pull this bolt, but could it double as a drain plug and case bolt?

most marine stores sell vacuum extractors for around 20 bucks. a hose goes in the fill hole to the bottom, and you run a small pump with a cordless drill. works best if the fluid is hot (especally on gear oil). a heat gun or the wifes hair dryer should get it warmed up quite nicely.
