Argo throttle problem

I have a 2001 Argo big foot with the 18hp van motor and when I first go to take of it seems to want to die just at first throttle . It starts good and once u get it past that one point it seems fine . If I give it gas really really slow it seems to work ok any ideas . I think it sat for a little while was going to try new gas a fuel filters

does it idle better with the choke on? if so clean the carbespecially the jets.
