I have found a 2002 Conquest w/windshield and tracks for $9000 - would you say this is an OK deal or would you go with an 04 Avenger with maybe a winch for $10,500 (or keep looking). Conquest has less than 100 Hrs - Avenger has 150 or so hrs. I would need to get tracks for the Avenger since I plan on using the Argo in deep snow. Thanks in advance for your insight.

Supertracks or Standard?
Any other options?
Does the Avenger have the Updates (E-Brake, new style Chain Tensioners)?
How have they been stored/maintained?
Spare parts $$'s can add up fast, do these machines come with any?
Is the Avenger EFI?
Obviously I am a little biassed, I do like my Conquest

Conquest or Avenger?

Thanks RD
Thanks RD - They both look like they have been kept inside and fairly well maintained. No Updates to the Avenger that I know of (and no EFI). No spare parts. The standard tracks are the 14" - correct? I think these are the Supertracks. They are definitely plastic ones (not Rubber). The Avenger might have a Back Seat Bench (but, that might have been the '06 I was looking at
). I knew you were really happy with the Conquest - so, this is why I posed the question to you
. Thanks again,

I have a Conquest and wife has an Avenger. We just got back from Moose hunting and running them side by side. They both went the same places but she got stuck less often, the ground clearance if very apparent in the ruts and mud. and the Avenger is quieter, chain noise, trans. noise, etc... if I had a choice I would get an Avenger. My dad also has a Conquest, they have been very dependable. But over the week long trip you notice the Advantages to the Avenger.Jodi.jpg

Yes, I do have a thing for the Conquests, even moreso now with some of the recient issues I have come across with the Avengers.
Don't take that comment the wrong way, the Avenger is a great machine, but a few recient issues around here bother me. (The issues were abuse related, but the Conquests seemed to handle that abuse better)
The Conquests are not the ultimate machine either, as mentioned they really do like the Frontier tires, and they can also benifit from a little clutching modifications.
Avengers do have some great features: Power, Clearance, Quiet, ect......But I have yet to see one go where I can't go with a Conquest, or haul a load that I can't haul. I have been stuck in holes and had avengers drive circles around me, but I have also driven circles around stuck Avengers. I believe that "driver ability" plays a large roll in the machines ability.
I have a hard time looking at the issue any other way than this.........
4 of my riding buddies have new Avengers, I have a 2004 Conquest. I can't get away from them, and they can't get away from me. Sometimes I get stuck, and sometimes they get stuck. I paid $8,500 for mine with a Top, Supertracks, 4,200 lb Winch, and some spare parts, they paid on average $20,000 for their Avengers with no options.

After riding a Frontier and Avenger, I have trouble even looking at a previous model Argo. The performance difference is night and day. The Avenger's larger tires, larger engine, and improved transmission make it a very capable machine. It'll handle some serious mud and climb out of steep lake banks. I once had a Conquest with brand new Runamuks on it that would not climb out of the shallowest area of my pond. The Avenger's higher speed and quicker accelleration makes it a much more enjoyable and useful machine in my opinion. It has plenty of power to go most anywhere in high gear where the Conquest would have to be in low. You'll use the Avenger's low gear when carrying a heavy load and you can still go faster than a Conquest. Argo's low gear is very handy but you definately don't want to have to stop to shift back and forth as the trail changes.Everybody dies, but not everybody lives.
