If the engines peak horsepower is rated at 3600 rpm, then you shouldn't need to go much higher than that. 3650-3700 max. (And momentarily at that!) Reason being that once you pass that "RATED RPM, you actually start EATING horsepower. Meaning you are actually starting to use some of the rated horsepower just to keep the engine turning at the excessive hi rpm. I forget what the technical name is, but it boils down to any rpms above or below 3600 means less than 16 hp. Hope this helps.
Only asking for top speed, most engines have HP peak then max rpm(top end)cars trucks ,whatever.EG the dump truck i drive rated 275hp@2100rpm,max rpm2500.torque800ft/lbs@1400rpm.just trying to figure the max rpm.many v-8shp will peak around 4000 rpm but will rev to 5000 plus.what got me thinking bout this was a post in engines about clutches,a high speed clutch added 9 mph @4000 rpm and rpms were pushed to 4800 for 37ish(?)mph on a B&S18 in a max 4.sounds like a lot of rpm to me
ag67 i think you can rev it till about 4200 4300 . after that you need to upgread robbie
1999 max 2 18 b&s 22 tires custom . new max iv 23 k 26 i/n tires brown . ht cable promark winch . new toy 1972 attex st400 400ccjlo and she will be bad . ( the frog ) if it don't float with out you getting wet . don't bring it ! R.I.P sage rogers 4 11 09 . you can't fix stuped !!!!! raceone 3 .)
HP rating is16 @3,600 rpm.I havent reved past 3,850 rpm,how high can i safely rev this engine?
If the factory recomends 3600, you can probably get away with 3800 - 4000 before you risk breaking a rod or spinning the flywheel apart (if it is an older engine, the flywheel is likely cast iron and can do a lot of damage if it breaks), but I would not go higher that that. I would run my Kohler 16 at 4200 - 4500, but the factory rod is fairly tough and I had the flywheel balanced.
Hope this helps.
Here is a link for hopping up your older K and Magnum Kohlers There are some pulling garden tractors with the Tech16. you will need stronger valve springs to keep them from floating. lighter flywheel, better exhaust and intake, higher compression and better connecting rods. There are alot of splash lube high rev engines in go karts. Brian Miller's Engine Parts, Rebuilds & Machine Shop Services
