  • Argo trailers

I was wondering what one of the Argo trailers would cost. I dont have a dealer near me to talk to. Was wanting to get a trailer for my Response and was wanting to look at the Argo trailer first.

Personally I don't care for the "stock" design of the factory Argo trailer, although it can be modified to work better. I pull trailers alot, and have found that there are much better designs out there (for my needs anyway).

    Few things to consider:
Tandem axle with "walking beams" gives a much smoother ride than "fixed" axles. So much better in fact that you will NEVER go back to a single axle or fixed axle trailer once you try it.
Raised trailer tongue that drops down to the hitch on the Argo works better than the straight tongue. ex, Crossing Logs.
Argo trailer has low clearance, which is just simply a PITA.
Argo trailer design is such that when dropping into or coming out of a sharp hole the tub try's to "Plow". Simple design changes would stop this.
Tilt deck, or Dump Trailer is VERY handy, and an Argo trailer design does not do this nor is it easy to modify it to.
It's dificult to modify/change/repaire the plastic Argo tub. I prefer to make my tubs out of Aluminium. Yes it's a little more expensive, but well worth it.

Anyway, not saying that an Argo trailer won't work for you, but trying to get you to think about options and what you are going to do with your trailer.

    Just my 2 bits worth

I will second the advantage of a walking beam trailer. We have two "Pac Rat" trailers that are made here in Anchorage, Ak and a single axle alu trailer and hands down the walking beam is better and easier to tow even though the trailers weighed more then twice as much loaded. They are made out of fiberglass and have a huge weight capacity are considered the best atv/aatv trailers in Alaska.I towed mine with my Bigfoot 130 miles moose hunting last week thru swamps, mud and over two mountain passes. They even float like an argo you just swim alittle slower with it back there. another advantage with a walking beam is if it is designed right the spindle and bearing for the walking beam is the same as each hub, this way if you have a nonrepairable tire or bearing failure you can remove the walking beam and replace it with one of the hubs and tires and get home on one wheel on the affected side gives you some redunency which we like here in Alaska. BTW I just sold the Bigfoot at lunch and am flying tomorrow to Indiana to check out Matt O's Mudd-Ox, the Bigfoot just didn't have enough power for my use here. I hope the Mudd-Ox is everything everyone here has said otherwise I'll buy a 750 EFI AVenger.

Here's the trailer that I just had built for my Argo. I cut and painted the plywood for the deck and sides today. It doesn't float but it is a walking beam. The main idea in the design is that I can take it all apart with pins for ease of transport to our hunting destination. Once the moose is down, remove the front winch from the Frontier, attach it to the receiver on top of the tongue, winch the moose on the trailer and drive back to camp without breaking a sweat!
