hi all, thanks for the add. We have a new to us 2009 Frontier 6x6. We noticed that the chains are making noise sounding like they might be hitting the chain tensioners. Is that normal?

You’re talking about the chains under the front floorboard? My 2016 6x6 Frontier chain on the left side seems to make contact with the chassis (there’s a plastic guard there) so I guess some chain slap on the frame is normal...someone else will respond I’m sure. I can’t figure out how to adjust the chain tensioner myself. Supposedly you lift the tensioner up to make it tighter?
When I do that it just goes back to the original position which I feel makes the chain too loose. Strange tensioner system but I’ll figure it out someday.

my conquest chains slapped the floor at the front when new and tight, i have never managed to stop it and it appears either my floor is too low or it is simply normal. On this argo everything possible has been renewed and it still slaps, so in this one it is clearly not an issue

I have a 2009 480 Frontier. You need to jack the side up you are wanting to tighten as trevorakm1 said or the whole machine. The adjusters in the mid and rear chains are adjusted by just lifting on the plastic guide one click or whatever it allows. They should stop hitting the floor board except for possibly at full speed. The fronts are not adjustable.

I believe I tried to lift the adjuster when it was up but not sure...I’ll check it again now that ice fishing season is coming to an end. Funny though, the drivers side chains make no noise at all and seem better adjusted.
