  • 2000 Response B&S 18HP Battery cable Q

I am installing a second battery and a Blue Sea Add a Battery Mini 65a kit with switch and ACR. I don't want to go under or over on the battery cables. Does any one know the correct gauge of +(pos) battery cable. I will be crimping my own lugs and want to buy cable in bulk to save money. I cannot find the size of the cable. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Unless I’m mistaken, I didn’t think you could go “too big” with Battery cable.
Bigger the gage more conductivity. You should be able to use the same size or bigger with no problems.
Again, correct me if this is wrong...

i installed a pretty big negative wire from my battery to ground and it didnt work.it sparked at the battery every time i connected the posted, used smaller gauge and it worked so yes really big gauge is not good.

if it sparked something was drawing on the battery .In a perfect world there is no draw until the key is turned. The gauge of wire really can never be too big but too small and it will fry. The cheapest thing is buy a small roll of welding wire than instead of crimping heat the socket of the cable end fill with solder and insert stripped cable end it will never corrode inside it will not come apart. I like to add heat shrink to the new end it just dresses it up. If you do use heat tape there are two types one with glue and one with out the one with glue works the best . ride on

Thanks everyone. I couldn’t find the part because it was discontinued. But thanks to Adventure Argo, it’s 6 AWG on both positive and negative.

4ga. is plenty and without looking I think the older machines ran 6ga., the bigger the gauge of the wire the more sustained amperage it will handle. If in doubt bring a cable with you to the parts store, longer runs require a larger than stock cable.
