  • avenger oil change

    Hi All
I an soon to sell my old conquest, and have a far newer Avenger, which i am setting up for my needs. One of the jobs i want to do is change the oil and filter, and i am told i need to do this through the dip stick hole, but i really cannot find a pump with a hose small enough to fit down the pipe. I really dont want to dump the oil into the hull, though an getting close to considering how best to do this.
Is there an easier way to change the oil on the Kohler 26 engine, and hints and tips would be much appreciated

Just went through this with my Frontier with the 23horse Kohler.
Pump hose was too fat to fit down the dipstick so I went on the hunt for smaller tubing.
Found a smaller diameter hose in my basement that for inside the pump tube a little loose so I wrapped a layer of electrical tape around it and it fit nice and snug the I taped the connection from the fat tube to the thin tube and tried it down the dipstick...worked like a charm but turned out to be not long enough to reach the bottom of the motor so I had to go to the hardware store to buy a longer piece. Repeated the procedure and sucked the old oil out nicely!

Many thanks, ok, its time to search Ebay for just the right pump then, It would be so easy to engineer a simple and quick engine drain set up, i may look into this, bound to be easy enough, but i guess once i get the right pump i wont bother.

Any trouble getting to the oil filter? I have a 2005 Avenger, and with my arthritic hands, it's really a nightmare!

Not sure about the Avenger but I could just reach my oil filter from the cockpit and reaching in. Luckily I had one of those oil filter removers that fit over the filter that take a 3/8” ratchet...made it a bit easier.
I discovered this after disassembling the heat shields around the muffler and not being able to squeeze my arm through (I have burns and scars to remind me) tight machines to work on for sure!

                Hi Diverdave
My solution was to remove the oil drain plug and install a brass hose barb. To this I attached a length of neoprene hose with a brass fitting at the top end to fit my pump. I leave the hose attached to theboil drain all the time and just lay it over the radiator shroud while I am running the machine.

cheers guys, my new oil removal pump and filter have arrived. Next job is to pump the oil out and work out how to get to the oil filter. i think it should be simple enough, but that is a job for when the snow stops!

We use something similar to this but with smaller diameter tubing.

On Amazon you can buy a Mistyvac pump that comes with a small enough line to use for sucking the oil out of the base.
