  • I now have an Argo! (and my post is in the correct forum this time)

I've taken the plunge and put my money down and bought a 2001 bigfoot. Got everything 'in' that I was looking for... skid plate, winch, windshield, soft-top (canvas), bearing extensions on the front, and a set of tracks for the winter.

For the age of it all seems reasonable, I'm going to have to replace a rear outer bearing on the back and maybe one in the middle too. I think I'll have to change the back chains and do some work on one of the rear chain tensioners. I've crafted a home made oil vacuum to suck the oil out of the engine and transmission as the engine oil looks well past a change. I haven't tried it yet as I haven't found an oil filter for less than $30 and don't want to put the synthetic oil in until I have a filter. I'll let you know how it works and how I did it if it's a success.

I'm located in Argo's (ODG) back yard in Cambridge Ontario but am having issues locating some parts at reasonable prices. I'm wondering if some of the members from Ontario could give me guidance on 60 hd chain, bearings, & oil filter in the Kitchener Waterloo, Cambridge area of Ontario.

I haven't looked into insurance yet either, but have read many posts on the forum about various successes and hassells people have had. I'll put my broker to the test soon.

    Thanks in advance.

if an axle has any play(jack it up and check for play) replace it immediately or you will wear on the seals and have to replace them as well. what makes you think the chains are worn or need replacing? (not questioning your mechanical skills just wondering why you think this being new Argo owner and all) Argo parts are expensive period no way around it. eBay chain is cheap and will last some time but like anything put money into it and it lasts longer of course under proper maintenance as well. use the vac cum pump it saves a lot of time and work on both tranny and engine. make sure to use 80W 90 gear oil and a summer oil of which you like and use most. for the filter just type the engine name and oil filter after it on eBay or another online site and buy them. I bought 2 for like 20 bucks and found them to be good! send some pictires up of those loose chains and the machine.....sure people would love to see it!
