How much whinning noise is normal on the argos? It makes the most noise in low gear. I'm new to the 6-8 wheelers and was just wondering if that is normal or should it be checked out. Thanks in advance for any info.

The pre avenger/frontier trannys are noisy and whine, even new. How loud.. you'd have to ride in other argos to compare. If they get louder than normal in reverse, there's a bushing in a gear that gets worn. People have added thick lubes like stp, but that'll be a problem in winter. I overfill mine. Loud exhaust helpsI think soundproofing could take the edge off it.. the firewall. A lot of sound comes through the open area around the shifter and steering levers.

This one of mine is VERY loud, and have had several "Armchair Experts" tell me that I had problems, that my trans was about to pile up, that it was a combination of trans noise and clutch noise..................whatever.
Well, I have put over 400 hrs on it just the way it is, and it seems fine. YES, I do have the loudest trans out of the guys I ride with (some of them have added stuff like STP). Square cut gears are just loud, that's all.
Some guys say "Some yrs are louder than others", and if I'm not mistaken I think it was a couple yrs between 97 and 02 that had the loudest trans (acording to these guys). Mine is a 04.

my argo is an 84. i just rebuilt the trany (with used parts... mine was trashed) and low gear is so loud that i can't stand to use it. if i was needing to pull something really slow it'd be ok. depending on the trany ratio that you have, i think in low gear the secondary shaft spins at super high rpm. much above 2000 engine rpms is where mine gets too loud to stand loudA well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Well I guess mine is ok then. I checked the output shafts for play last night and didn't have any that I could tell. The shifter is tight and it stays in gear so I will just let her roll then.
I am going to go drive another one night this week to see how it sounds and then I'll compare mine to it. Thanks for the help and info you guys have given me. I hope I'm not getting under anybodys skin with all the questions. I'm just new and trying to learn all that I can about my machine.
