    looks like a magnum

call one of the argo dealers in your area and give them the serial and model number , they can tell you what year , model .

it looks to be an 80 to 83. on my 84 the steering levers don't go all the way down to the floor. if it has a dash tag a dealer should be able to give you the year and model. i'm also told that the #'s on the trany can help narrow down the year on an Argo

Looks exactly like the "93" Vangaurd I had.Mechanical brakes and a 16 Briggs V-twin. I also had a sandstone colored "88" model that looked the same, only it had the Briggs opposed twin.

no its not a magnum they had full guage package, no its not an 80-83 it is a Vanguard hence the long levers and mechanical brakes but it has an upper body, firewall and hood shaped like the magnum but round headlights, the magnum started in '89 so i'm going to say.............'89 or '90 Vanguard 1

Received it today, started to rip it down. It starts and runs pretty good. Needs a tune up. It steers horrible, any pointers on how to adjust these things? The vary rear left chain came off, and appears to ahve been off the sprocket (well half on half off) for a while the teeth are chewed down. I need to replace that.

Any places on the net to get a service manual and parts for these guys?

Anyway, here are some pics (I have all these photos in very high res if anyone is interested.):

Looks fairly clean, first thing i would do is get yourself a new set of brake pads, they are cheap and help alot, then you want to adjust the brakes so you are not pulling the levers more that 8 inches max, thats what the book says, i have all the manual's here, just let me know what you need help with and i'll look it up for ya

                Take care

Thanks a lot! Where can I get pads for it, and would you happen to know where I can buy some service manuals for the argo itself? I will need a few slack adjusters as well (I assume thats what they are called) and a sprocket. any ideas where to pick these parts up? Does the manufacturer still make them?

                  I appreciate the help!

Just go right to the dealer to get the pads they are cheap maybe even worth their weight in gold for how well they work compared to 15-20 year old pads, the slack adjusters are just called chain tensioners they are not too expensive either from Argo, as for the manuals i tried looking everywhere and found nothin, then one day i went and bought an Argo from an elderly woman who's husband had passed away and she gave me manual's, brochures, parts lists that were with the machine.

Machine is in pretty nice shape.
You should be able to get the parts you need from any Argo Dealer, although I would get "generic" parts from other places. (example, Chain, Bearings, Seals, can be purchased cheaper from a place like "BC Bearing")

The dealer that I deal with has most of his manuals in "PDF Files", I just get the parts I need printed off (He won't print of whole manuals for me, but he will print "parts" of the manuals for me)

I have not found an aftermarket place to get the sprockets, so you may have to replace yours from Argo (or get a wrecked Argo for parts)

Chain Tensioners should be easy, but check them first, sometimes they can just be removed and flipped around to get the chain to wear on them in a different spot.

                        Good Luck

I just checked my Argo parts library cd and from the model number I believe you have a vangaurd manufactured in 1992. It is listed as "from S6999 02/92"
