Help with Argo Tracks

Hello guys
I recently picked up a pair of the narrower Argo Tracks, the ones without the need for wheels spacers.
I should mention that they are for the Conquest model, anyway, I’m looking to replace some of the screws on the stainless steel barrels that hold the hinge pins on the tracks.
My question is, does anyone know what size of thread is the grub screw and the correct size of hex wrench to use.
Also, any tips for ease of fitting them

I believe without looking they are 1/4-20 and definitely use a 1/8 allen wrench.

I found that changing the whole pin to a different style was much easier to work with and just as reliable.
All you need is a 1/4" diameter rod. I used galvanized steel. You put a thread on one end and bend the other 90 degrees.
With this design they are easier to remove and install and all thats needed to remove the nylock nut is a wrench.

Thank you very much for the prompt replies, I really do appreciate that.
I checked an invoice I had for some screws I bought and they were 1/4 - 20 x 1/4 inch UNC Imperial socket cup point set screws.
Sadly, they don’t fit.
I live some distance from any shops that may sell these screws, however I do like the idea of the pins you made and may go this route if all else fails.

I believe that some of the older track kits had a smaller set screw but forget the size. I'm guessing maybe a #10 but they may have also been a #8. If a 3/32" allen wrench fits them they are #10. 5/64" allen should fit a #8. Make sure to use a pick to clean out the dirt in the hex before you try loosening and some WD-40 or penetrating oil would be advisable too.

You might just buy a hand full of new pins and collars with the 1/4"-20 set screws holes. You will likely find that some of the set screws won't come out. I think that is why the upsized to 1/4-20. The 1/8 allen wrench allows you to get a little more on it before stripping the set screw hex.

Richards Relics tracks keepers use the 3/32 allen also, if you can get them out you could just drill and tap them larger.

once tracks apart make those dedicated track pins. You will never look back. Best mod I've seen and used.

I wish I was home to look at some of my extra parts. I probably have some and could give you a real answer! Its been too long ago since I've dealt with them so I don't recall if they are UNF or UNC. I'm going to guess them to be #10-24 UNC. If your having to order them also get some #10-32 UNF. They shouldn't be that costly.

I do remember not being able to get them out and having to cut them with a thin cut off wheel on a die grinder. So I'd get some extra pins & collars too. Argo prices on these are not that bad for them. I always wanted extras along just incase I broke one which never happened but I have not run the tracks that much either.

I do like the modified pin idea that was shared but never tried it myself. Looks like a great solution for the "master" link where you will break your tracks every time you take them off. I always had to hunt for a set screw that is willing to come out as forcing them usually ends up with a stripped set screw anyways.

Sorry to chime in so late. I have 18" Supertracks that came with my 2001 Conquest. The set screws are 1/4-20 x 1/4 and use a 1/8" hex key. Sorry your having issues with sizing. If it helps, don't feel too bad, I thought I was the only one on earth that rarely gets the typical/common/easy problems. Generally a knock down, drag out process.

Hey Joe, no problem, thanks for your input.
From what I understand, the tracks I have are the narrower ones and maybe even older than yours and have the smaller set screw.
An 1/8” hex is a little too big.
I’m organising a few of the hinge pins that were suggested earlier, it’s a great idea.
Some of the set screws look pretty stuck and as long as the suggested separation hinge is used to install and remove them, I think we’re on a winner.
