  • old argo 5 prong key switch

I have been restoring an old argo I bought not sure exactly what year it is (I think its from the 70's). the key switch was jerry rigged with a screwdriver and now does not work. I have looked but can not find a new one that will work. does anyone know where I can get a new one or even a used one that will work for me?

That is not an argo switch, standard indak 5 wire switch. Probably what is in your old lawn tractor.

    Non powered ignition switch.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.

oh ok did not realize it was not an argo switch. I have tried a basic old school lawn tractor switch and it made one of my wires start to smoke. guess ill have to figure something else out might just wire it up to a switch panel. the argo will fire up and run fine but have to figure out what wire to splice into to get it to shut off. it has a kohler 440cc 2 stroke in it. do you perhaps know what wire to splice a switch into to get it to shut off?

I do not know the wire harness off the top of my head. As far as the switch the letters on the back should give you an idea.
        G ground
        L lights
        B battery positive
        S start
        M magneto (Kill)

Crossing the ground and the kill may have been your issue ( unless you tried a powered ignition switch), you would want an Off ,Acc/Run, Run ,Start switch unless you have a separate head light switch now.

You could get a new switch from a Vanguard engined machine which works the same if wanted.
        Hope this helps.
