  • Kawasaki in Conquest won't start

I have done some extensive searching on here to find my problem but I'm stuck. Pulled out my Conquest to fire it up tire pressure check etc. would not fire. Turns over good but it acted like it wasn't getting any fuel. A little gas down the carb and she fires right up then dies, so no fuel. Removed fuel line and getting plenty of fuel to carb. Found fuel shut off solenoid not working. Clipped end off to get fuel. After I did this took a few tries but she started. Give her some throttle and bogs down bad sputters then she started revving up good. Put her in gear and it bogs down big time. Almost dies every time but staying running if I let off. She finally died on the way to load it on the trailer and it won't start for anything now. Drained the tank because I haven't ran her since turkey season back in April. Added new non ethanol gas and still no start. I assume it's now flooded. Heavy gas smell so I'm letting her sit. What could be the issue? Only thing I did was clip the shut off needle, pulled plugs to check them, and changed out fuel. I need to check out some new duck hunting property this weekend but I'm stuck!

O would guess thre is something in the carb, clean it. If that works great, if not I'd head to the valve covers.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Can you trim off the needle on the fuel shut off solenoid to far and overflow the carb? That is what it's acting like, way to much fuel.

If you feel it is flooding check that the needle and the float are working properly.

Hi, The engine you have has a electric fuel pump and a fuel filter. These are located under the seat on top of the fuel tank.
I would check these out to make sure you have fuel flow. Regards Paul

I have plenty of fuel flow. I think that it is filling up the bowl but not leaving the bowl. Acts like it's flooding but not leaving the bowl to ignite. I'm going to pull the top off and try to clean it out. Thanks for the help so far, I'll let y'all know what I find

Well I pulled the carb and cleaned out all the jets. Got a new fuel shut off solenoid and installed it as well. Dropped the solenoid copper gasket and when I screwed it down it would not move. I installed the old cut off solenoid and still turns over and no start. Getting clean high test gas into the carb and I know I'm getting gas because I have the snipped solenoid. Haven't checked spark yet I guess that is next?

As Argojim said, pull the valve covers off too and see if you have a seized valve. You might have a bent pushrod, or one might have skipped out from under a rocker arm.

When this happens your machine will feel powerless and boggy running on one cylinder, and will not run at all if it happens on both cylinders.

sounds like bad fuel. did you actually drain the tank or add good gas to bad. put gas line anti freeze in it (methol hydrate) and let it sit for a few hours. otherwise drain tank and use new fuel.

Well I ended up pulling and cleaning the carb, it looked like some varnish was starting to build up. Once that was done I didn't have any spark. I felt like an idiot when I found a wiring harness coming off of the igniter box unplugged. Plugged it back in and she fired right up. Also drained all of the gas and added new ethanol free. She's running great now. Thanks for all of your help!
