Thinking about buying new carb for my 18 hp magnum. any suggestions looking at some ebay $30 ones?

$30 carburetor? Do you have a link to them, I would like to see it?
I haven't bought a new one in a very long time but remember them being hundred bucks at least, but that was probably a Mikuni.

seems legit i bought one anyways so will see how it goes. my old one had a jet stuck in it and it was the original so its been through enough and done its duty.

well got my carb and wasn't to impressed.it felt light had aluminium shavings in the bowl and came with a bent needle and of course the old one will not thread into the new carb. i didn't expect much for 30 anyways but i was at least expecting a carb that would work properly???hope i can get my money back because this is ridiculous.

You should be able to return anything, especially damaged goods on eBay.
However, EBay has become so huge and has changed so much since the first few years that I don’t use it anymore.

I have done the same on items that have been delivered “less than perfect”
Trouble these days is you’re most likely to be dealing with some Chinese sellers that are difficult to deal with for various reasons.

So wasting your time and "only" $27 instead of $30 is supposed to make you feel better? That's absurd. I think either Ebay or Paypal will take care of refunding all of your money for you. Its clear you documented the problem and you're not just making it up.

I wouldn't even bother contacting the seller any further. Go straight to eBay and lodge a complaint you should get a full refund and probably can keep the bad carb too.
I had a similar problem with a seller on Amazon. Received a different part than the one I ordered. Seller would not communicate with me or provide a solution. Amazon refunded me in full and I kept the wrong part.

That's a bummer Curtis, I would do the resolution center if Paypal. It worked for me on a seller that didn't respond to me about not receiving a RC car I bought. Once I did the resolution center they responded right quick.

You’re dealing with a Chinese seller.
Just tell them you are going to give them terrible feedback and they will jump through hoops to refund the $$
I think if they are found to be the reason for bad feedback their “bosses” send them off to detention camps.

I think you really have to ask yourself, what do you expect for $30?
I’d say some very cheap Chinese copy of poor quality and not worth wasting your time and money, especially on such a critical engine component that you want to rely on.
Recently I needed a new fuel pump for my Kohler 18hp, sure, the very cheap copies can be seen on the auction site for $10 but a genuine one is $75
I guess you get what you pay for at the end of the day
