  • Disc Brake issue

    So out hunting this past week, and my argo let me down for the first time.. I had a brake pad on the left disc overheat and fail. I stopped the machine, when I had no turning to the left. I found the quick connector on the brake fan had fallen off, and I'm assuming causing the pad to overheat. I let it cool and pulled the pad. It was worn slightly more so on the top of the pad than the bottom. There was minimal pad left, so I took it easy to get it back to the road, trailered it back to camp and replaced the pads. It ran good for the rest of the week, and now that I'm home should I look at replacing the disc?

    Then I had a chain from the 3rd to the 4th tires have a stiff link, so that took some more time to try and free up.. Replaced the tensioner pad as it was getting worn.. That chain will be replaced this coming week.. I'll be pulling and degreasing the others and checking them for wear..

    On a side note.. How much of parts do some guys carry? I carry a few master links, tools, slider blocks, tensioner arms, springs, oils and greases. Apparently now a few spare chains, pre-cut and vacuum packed.. The old 3 brake pads are coming along too.. What else should I look at throwing in?

    Kitchen sink? Lol just kidding...I guess it depends on how old/how many hours on a machine to know what to bring for spare parts. My 2016 doesn’t appear to need any parts right now but it’s used mostly for ice fishing which is pretty easy on things.
    If I were trekking into the bush for days I suppose I’d have a spare belt and some grease and oil.

      I forgot that I carry a belt too.. Mine is an '07 Avenger with 195 hours on it and stored inside all the time..

        If the disc is not warped or cracked or too badly glazed you should be good to go.
