  • 87 Argo Conquest right side little/no power

Both sides pull good on flat ground. When I get in the mud the right side has little to no power unless I apply brake to left side wheels. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the site mvp111. I'm not an Argo guy, but isn't that the way its supposed to work? I think Argo's have an "open" transmission which operates like an "open" differential - the wheel(s) with the least resistance get the power. Thus, by applying the brake to the spinning wheels forces power to the nonspinning wheels.

In your scenario, the right side has little to no power because the left wheels are spinning. Thus, applying the brake to the left side forces power to the right side.

When working properly (before) each side would pull evenly. You have to lock the brake on one side to be able to turn. Now the right side will not pull at all unless I brake the left side.

Lift all the wheels off the ground and rotate by hand to see if there's more drag on one side or the other.
Also, check chain tension while they're all spinning by hand, you may find a tight spot when they rotate.

I agree that it sounds like normal Argo behavior, but if this is a new and different feeling, my gut tells me it is an issue in the brakes. grab each rotor by hand and see if you can rotate them freely. Check over what liflod mentioned. also check to see if 1 or more wheels are spinning inside the tire.

I don't know my Argo timeline very well. is an 87 splined or pinned axles? if it is pinned, I would look for one or more broken pins
