  • Argo big foot starter

Hi all my starter in my big foot is grinding my question is how hard is it to get off? It’s a 18hp vanguard v twin . Do I have to take off the shroud were the pull start is as well?

No need to pull the shroud, a mirror will help. Some have pulled the engine.
Search the forums as there are a few threads.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

I think I found the problem I think the bottom bolt fell out of the mount for the starter . I have tried everything and I can’t seem to find a socket that will fit in there it is really tight . Is there a specific socket that will fit ? And does anyone know the size of bolts that hold the starter on ?

Ah you found the rub of messing with the starter on the bigfoot at least. Sorry don't remember the socket size but I remember pulling one off a motor that was in place. Mirror does help but still super tight space and has to be done by feel. Getting te bolts started was the worst.

1/4" 13mm universal socket works great. Not universal and socket, just universal socket.

I thought it was a 12 mm bolt but the most important thing is to use a 12 point socket or i'm sure the universal socket that argojim suggests will work but chances are you dont have that lying around.
Its also important to line it up correctly to the fly wheel if it isnt the bendix gear wont last to long. Thats probably why some just pull the engine.
