Clamps on Idler shaft?

So I've been kicking around the thought about getting a clamp built for the idler shaft on my Avenger. I'd want to put it on the inboard side after the snap ring, so that should the snap ring break, it would limit the travel of the sprocket to eliminate damage to the brake disc. I'd want it to be able to be put on after the shaft is in place, and removed for service.
Has anyone tried this? Is there an after market product similar to this available? Pros or cons that anyone can see with this?

glen ..i am not familiar much with argos , but trying to visualize what you r describing , would a 2 piece collar work next to the snap ring ? most collars are about 1/4 '' wide. i have them on both sides of my sprockets on my max to keep the sprockets in place in case a set screw lets loose . johnboy va.

p.s. they can be installed with the shaft in place . 2 allen screws hold the halves together. j.b.

That sounds close to what I'm thinking of.. I'm not sure off the top of my head how wide they could be.. Do you have a link to something like you're describing?

just punch in '' 2 piece shaft collars '' on the internet. they are very common. or look up the company '' mcmaster - carr ''. thats where i buy them . just look under their shaft collar section. there may be a '' thin shaft collar '' also made. good luck , j.b.

My older argo had been rebuilt by the previous owner. He used Stainless steel hose clamps as locking collars. Seemed to work well the 1 1/2 years I owned it before getting my new machine.
