  • Tachometer in a Conquest

    Hello again Guys,
    Another day another question :-)
I’m in the process of tidying up some wiring by the previous owner on my Conquest
this wiring was for a windshield wiper, bilge pump and 12v auxiliary power socket.
I’m also upgrading the headlamps to LED as the bulbs were bust and cost a fortune to replace.
Anyway, looking at the wiring diagram there is provision for a tachometer, I understand that it would have a 12v supply, ground/earth, power for a backlight on the dial itself and a sensor cable that would pick up the pulse or rotation giving the tachometer it’s reading.
Question is, where would the sensor cable be connected to on the Conquest?
As usual your comments are appreciated and received gratefully
    Thanks

Just to update the thread, I spoke to our local Argo mechanic today and it’s all sorted

Would you mind sharing the details on the tach. I have a "tiny tach" on my Conquest, but it just died. A stock one would be nice if there is such a thing. I dig the LED lights you put in your conquest. I would imagine that those are a lot bright than the stock ones.

        Hi
Sorry for the late reply, I’ve been out of town for a few days.
The sensor wire for the tachometer was connected to the negative of the coil.
I’ve marked it up on the Kawasaki engine wiring diagram.
The tachometer itself was from eBay, I’ll try and find the link for it and post it up here

Thanks man. Do you unplug that wire you marked and put it into the tach? and is there another wire you plug in the coil in it's place? Just not sure which wire goes where. The link to the tach would be great.

            Hi
I’m afraid the link I have for the tachometer doesn’t give much detail. It’s just a recessed 52mm gauge with a needle dial.
It has a small switch on the rear to select the number of cylinders for the application.
Four wires, 12v for power, earth, power for dial illumination and the all important sensor.
I used a twin connector using bullet crimps, I’m not keen on the scotchlock method for splicing wires.
So essentially you are teeing into the existing cable that I marked and this gets connected to the sensor wire of the tachometer.
As a note, the sensing wire is part of the main loom as are the power and earth for the gauge
The sensor wire is the black/ blue cable not connected near the igniter unit at the back of the engine block

            Hope this helps
