  • Aux Brake Cooling Kit (for older Avengers)

    Hi Guys,

Been a while. Just working on my 2005 avenger getting ready for a mountain hunting trip. Last few times in the mountains I lost steering due to the brake fluid getting too hot when pulling a long hill climb out of a valley through a mountain pass (or that is what the dealership said was the problem, and it makes sense). Even when I am really easy on the brakes (steering) I seem to still loose pressure. When I cool it all down, it comes back. I suspect a bit of moisture in the lines, but Ive tried hard to get rid of it, and of course, you don't know you haven't until its too late.

He recommended the hood fan kit, which I installed. It helped for sure. But on a unusually warm day coming out, with two moose in the back (Yes, that is alot of weight) it happened again, even with the hood fan on. The dealership recommended the aux cooling kit that blows cool air on the brake fluid reservoirs. He had a acc kit part number. I declined because I wasn't going to need it for a while. Well, I guess a while is now here. I am trying to track down the argo kit number for the aux cooling brake kit. Anyone know the accessory number for that kit? I can find the one for he newer models with the admiral transmission (864-01) but I am not sure that would work on the older avengers.

    Thoughts? Ideas?

Hey Derek, Adventure Argo has on line manuals where you can look up part numbers for your machine. Just wondering if you are using DOT 5 brake fluid, I think its has a boiling point of 550 degrees F. Good luck.

Yep, I use DOT5. Ive heard DOT5 is more susceptible to water issues. Not sure if that is true but it is strange that both times I've climbed that hill, I lost steering. The second time I took it really easy. It almost made it to the top, but not quite before I lost steering. (Still had a bit but not much).

Thanks for the heads up on the manuals, I'll look for those parts.

Thanks. I guess I misunderstood the parts guy when he said there was a cooling kit for the avengers that blew on the mastercylinders. He meant they modify the HDI kit to do that. I ended up buying a bilge air pump and will try that with some custom hose.

        Thanks again all.
