  • FD620D fuel pump question

Should the electric fuel pump be putting out a steady stream of fuel or should it be pulsing?

My fuel filter is never full... when I disconnect the fuel line at the carb and turn on the ignition...fuel squirts out about once every 10 seconds or so.... is this normal?

It pulsates a bit but should be fairly steady. Open line they will deliver at least 8 oz. a minute. Did you say you have checked the drop tube in the tank already?

No... I havent checked that.... I could connect an airhose and blow through it

I would remove drop tube and inspect for cracks or possibly plugged pickup. The filler neck hose can decompose and get chunks of the inside lining in the tank. Blowing through it may just make problem go away for a bit. I checked the shop manual and fuel flow at minimum is listed at 180 ml. (6.5oz)In 30 seconds. Before trashing your pump try testing flow from known good source with new clean hose to suction side.

I have already replaced the pump with a Mr Gasket #42S but I suspect that the original pump is working fine... I thought I had found the problem as the tank doesnt seem to vent very well.... I shot air through the pickup and it pressurized the tank so that when I removed the air hose the gas shot back out at me..... I then tried the system with the gas cap removed and its still the same

There could be a couple fuel issues, if you think the vent is clogged trace or pressurized the vent line at vent hole in rear of machine after making sure it is not full of mud or bees. Run a new temporary line from fuel pump to carb and go for a ride. Remove top of carb and blow air out seat valve.
I had the same issue you are having 15 years ago but forget what I did on the trail to fix it.

Is there any chance you have water in the tank?

Not to push you this way but I did have an issue with my V2 that drove me nuts as it would shut off for no reason and then run til it did not want to, there was a ball of gum in the pick up tube that would make its way to the 90 and block off the fuel.

The fuel filters in Conquests or any machine for that matter should not fill unless gravity fed, the fuller your filter gets is how dirty it is.

He sure the Mr gasket pump does not flood the machine, had issues in our Conquests with those.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
            Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.
